Some common types of ghosts
Existence of ghost is widely believed in Nepal. In many villages and cities people believe that different forms of ghosts exists. There are countless stories about people's encounter with ghosts. Today we discuss about some common forms of ghosts that are believed to exist in Nepalese concept:
1. Kichkanya:
If girl of age to get married or a pregnant girl dies un natural death ( accidents, suicides, etc ) , the girl becomes kichkanya. Kichkanya is supposed to be extremely attractive & her legs are bent backwards.
Kichkanya visits the room of boys to exploit them. The boy under the effect of kichkanya gets thinner day by day and ultimates dies due to some illness or other reasons.
2. White horse ( सोतो घोडा ):
White horse looks like a person riding the horse. It runs on the streers at 3 in the morning. Anyone who sees the white horse dies within the span of a day.
3. Murkhatta:
Murkhatta is the most dangerous ghosts that are believed to exist. Murkhatta doesn't have head and the eyes & mouth are located at its chest. It is especially believed to exit in the forests and the cemeteries. Also it is said that murkhatta sometimes vistis the houses during night.
4. Chhauda ( छाउडा ) :
Chhauda is the bhojpuri translation for child. So, the ghost is in the form of child. It is not the dangerous type of ghosts. Not the adults , but the child sees chhaudas playing some tricks and doing various activities. The child then gets sick. If one sees babies and child in their dream playing some tricks, it is also the chaauda.
5. Boksi/ Chudail (बोक्सी / चुडेल) :
Boksi are the living forms of ghosts. They are middle aged or old aged womens. Boksis transform into cats in the midnight and suck people's blood. Boksi are considered to be dangerous. They posses some super powers by the use of which they can cause some serious illness or even death of the people they want. They become powerless if their hair is cut. It especially attacks people who sleeps with their hands on their own chest. It is believed that a boksi never dies without passing its powers to other womens.
6. Pichas ( पिचास ) :
Pichas are the dangerous types of ghosts. These ghosts live on the blood of the human. It appears only at night and cannot stay in the sunlight. It is supposed to be a man eater.
7. Veer ( विर ):
Veer is the dangerous type of ghost. It is like a faithful servant towards its master who obeys all the orders given by his master. A veer is controlled by a person by the use of some mantras. If ordered by his master Veer does all the house hold and field works with some magics. On the behalf of his work Veer asks for some foods that could be anything ( Grass, straws [ पराल], animals and even man). If a veer is instructed by his master it could even eat a man.
8. 3 Ghante ( 3 घण्टे ) :
3 ghante is also a dangerous form of ghosts. It can't be seen but only has a voice. It calls someone directly by its name for 3 times in the voice of someone known to them. It calls only the name for 3 times and within 3 times if someone respondes to the call by it , the person dies within 3 hours.
9. Ranke Bhoot :
Rankey bhoot is a common type of ghost that most of us have heard. Ranke bhoot are genererally believed to exist in the places where dead bodies are burnt. The ghosts are mostly seen at nights and appear in front of a people for short period and disappear.
